Question authority, not merely rail against. This is the difference between an anti-authoritarian and a dis-authoritarian.
The dis-authoritarian sometimes follow authority, sometimes they are the authority, sometimes they do something entirely other. The dis-authoritarian acknowledges the like the concept of the expert put forward in Orson Welles "F for Fake", it is mostly an illusion, the result of human games and neurotic behaviour. Sometimes people get labelled as authorities to dissuade others from hearing from what they are actually saying, sometime they are labelled as subversives for similar reasons.
What you should know is that there is no better authority, corporeal or otherwise than yourself for your own life. The dis-authoritarian attempts to establish themselves as an individual, choosing what to believe or not according to the function of their own experience and nervous system. The dis-authoritarian does not attempt to win over others to their point of view through a conviction of will, or coercion, though we seem to all indulge in that tendency from time to time. Hopefully by being aware of it, we can alleviate any abuses that might arise from one's own individual authority, and that of others.
