There are a few groups out there who are already thinking along the lines we are. The question is, with each of these groups: do we collaborate, compete, or ignore? Check out the growing list on the MondoGlobo wiki.

My first thought is, tell them 'ello. Why not?

It would be only polite afterall.

I also think we need to find those areas we complement these other sites, to prevent needless repetition, however it is nice to be enlightened to other projects undertaking similar tasks, thanks. Certainly the "administrators" and their ilk need to have a few friendly chats with them about how we can supplement each others efforts.
Afterall I think it is the people behind these projects we wish to interface with, and indulge in some mutual back-scratching, we ignore them at our peril, and competing seems be against our raison d'etre.

There are a lot of different people working towards this same general notion, it seems.

All the different groups show support for a project that has yet to be realized -- which I think is the answer to your question. In the open source community, there is no competition, only cooperation. The missing component, however is what we are cooperating on: a platform for Open Government.

In other words, its seems as if we're at a similar cusp when the open source community saw no alternatives to the browser. I could only imagine that many different groups, similar to the Open Government groups, agreed there was a problem, and discussed similar solutions.

Like Firefox, I believe that we should begin working on the platform itself. Get the code in progress and spread our work to each of the groups so that they can contribute in their own way, either by contributing code or simply spreading the word.
