There seems to be some agreement that a blog/news tracker to highlight the abuse of authority both large and small-and-weird. Phil Leggiere has created an article on the MondoGlobo wiki where people can momentarily stash their observations and/or discuss the idea and effort. (We can talk about it here as well).

My sense is that we need at least 2-3 people to commit to doing this thing on a daily basis and everybody else keeping their eyes open. We could also use suggestions for regular resources -- places to check for news items... maybe a full list of websites to scan representing a wide variety of views.

Our regular bloggers should write well and be able to try to distinguish a hoax from a news item, a rumor from evidence, and evidence from proof... relatively speaking. We can, of course, always correct ourselves.

This ning doesn't seem to really support the creation of a separate public blog in the way that we would like to do it, so it seems to me that we need a new address where we can do this thing in the name of QA, all stuff I'm throwing open to the group here.

I'd definitely be up to work on the blog, but agree we need i'd say minimum of 2 and better 3 others who'd be willing to scout around an hour or so daily or most days. If anybody's interested just respond here or email me at philguy@prodigy.net. Once it was up and running for a few/several weeks and got up a head of steam-we could do strong outreach to get bloggers to recommend us as a regular read and maybe get some with an existing following to cross-post relevant civil liberty related items here. The blog could be important as an anchor, something newsy and hopefully a good read people could count on from the network, in addition to the wide range of variety of other discussions and projects going on. It would also help keep QA in the loop about issues, cases, pending legislation, campaigns etc. going on and might help spur good action ideas for the organization to focus on as well.

A news blog affiliated with QA and tentatively called “Don’t Tase Me Bro” will be launching in the next week. Michael is currently designing it in moveable Type. The goal of the blog will be to monitor news relevant to the state of US civil and personal liberty, the culture and politics of authoritarianism, and forms of dissent against it. The blog is the first experiment in what we hope will develop into a multi-dimensional publishing/media platform including investigative reporting, essays, video, satire and other forms of creative dis-authoritarian (thanking Yodhe for the term) projects.
If you’re interesting in contributing to the blog as a researcher and/or writer please let me know here or at philguy@prodigy.net.
