Vegas Anarchist Cafe

A-Cafe is an informal gathering for anarchists to meet and talk with each other--free-form enough to allow people just to meet up and hang out if they want to hang out, but also where they can talk some shop, share news, and float ideas for action.

The Anarchist Cafe is not a place, it's an event--a social experiment in urban anarchy. A-Cafe is an informal gathering for anarchists (of all stripes, sects, and creeds) to meet and talk with each other--which is free-form enough to allow people just to meet up and hang out if they want to hang out, but also where they can talk some shop, spread some news, and float some ideas for action. All Anarchists, anti-statists, and the anarchy-curious are invited to meet, greet, break some bread, talk some shop, and shoot the breeze.

We meet up:

Every Wednesday, 6:00pm - 8:00pm
@ the Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf
Running Rebel Plaza, 4550 S. Maryland

THIS WEEK'S CAFE FEATURES A SPECIAL EVENT: the second in our weekly Free Speech Soapbox Series. Local artist, activist, and fellow worker Kelly Patterson will give a presentation entitled "We Need the Wobblies Now More Than Ever! A Brief History of the Industrial Workers of the World." The I.W.W. is a radical, anti-statist industrial labor union, which organized hundreds of thousands of workers and became one of the most powerful unions in America early in the 20th century -- until the United States government targeted it for destruction. In this age of bail-outs, the government and the bosses have proven themselves incapable of delivering the prosperity that they promised; workers need a fighting union now more than ever. Kelly's talk will look at both the I.W.W.'s storied history, and at signs of hope for a Wobbly resurgence in the early 21st century.

As always, A-Cafe will begin on Wednesday at 6:00PM. The talk will begin at 6:30PM and run for about half an hour, with another half-hour set aside for Q&A and conversation afterwards.
