The problem is I think, that the way tasers are initially sold is 'hey, instead of having to shoot people we can just tase them' which, when it makes sense, I think we can all support more or less wholeheartidly.

But what actually ends up happening is the whole tase first ask questions later mentality. Just because something is considered 'less then lethal' doesn't mean that it won't seriously fuck you up and or kill you. I think police departments need to institute similar policies for tasers as they do for every bullet fired.

And dont forget all these bad boys demonstrating how harmless the taser is.They are trained for this unlike some drunk chick who may have gotten in the wrong car.If I got tased for peacefully protesting I would not stop until the police man lost his job and was sued til his grandchildren felt my pain.

I heard a cop in Starbucks a few days ago, bragging about how fun it was to taser people. I almost threw my coffee at him.

i was ten feet away from someone getting tased at a music event on new year's day in san francisco at club mighty... the gig was the "breakfast of champions." security tased this guy and we were all very alarmed and wondered what had just happened... well, the guy had been urinating under the stairwell inside the club. security tried to remove him, he put up quite a fight and security pulled out a taser and started to tase him. in mid-tase security lost control of the thing and it fell on the ground and was kicking around while other security grabbed the guy and threw him off the property... very intense experience. and since he was pissing under the stairwell and then picked a fight, it seemed rather tough to just blame security for being assholes.
